When Philipe Suchard launched his chocolate brand Milka (a combination of "Milch" and "Kakao") in 1901, he probably did not expect the brand to become one of the best-known global chocolate brands 100 years later. In 1965, Milka became Germany's best selling chocolate bar, mainly produced in Lörrach, at the Swiss-German border.

In 1973, the US agency Young & Rubicam introduced the brand's main mascot: the "purple cow" and the entire packaging became purple. 

Despite many mergers - first with the German Jacobs Coffee company, then with Kraft Foods and now Mondelez - the majority of flavors are still being produced in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.  And the decade-old ad slogan Milka .."the most tender temptation since the beginning of chocolate" still rings true for millions of fans worldwide.
